The Values
The guiding values and principles provide a moral and strategic basis
for the development training and formation of Staff and volunteers and
for the social action of Caritas.
Dignity of the
Human Person
Inspired by this basic moral value, Caritas regards the poor not as objects
of pity but as subjects of their own development and agents of change.
Option of the
Poor
Caritas commits itself to analyse the underlying causes of poverty, combats
social and economic equalities, which deprive people of a decent and sustainable
livelihood, and defends the rights of the poor.
Social Justice
Caritas supports Poverty Watch as an instrument for an ongoing social
analysis of the changing faces of poverty and for exposing the forces
that undermine social justice.
Solidarity
Caritas feels responsible to defend the common good of each individual.
It empathises with them , identifies itself with the poor, sees society
from their own perspective, and challenges the systems that bear down
on them.
Reconciliation
Caritas is committed to acknowledge cultural pluralism and keep an open
dialogue with all people of goodwill.
