Counselling and Social work Unit.
This unit responds to phone-in and drop-ins, at Caritas Malta Head Office, of people in difficulty.

The difficulties, which these people present, are problems around family or personal issues. Among others they include relationships, parenthood, drugs, alcohol, gambling, usury, financial and material needs, housing, psychological needs, spiritual concerns, legal issues, medical problems and geriatric conditions.

The professionals working in this unit are a counsellor and a social worker. They offer their services within their competence and they make referrals both within Caritas and outside Caritas, depending on the individual cases.

The services are offered at the Caritas Malta Head Office 5, Lion Street Floriana.

Xefaq (Pre and Post HIV Test Counselling)
This service run by a team of trained volunteer counsellors offers individual support, information, advice and counselling to persons concerned with HIV and Aids. Pre and post-HIV test counselling is offered on a regular basis when required. Total confidentiality is guaranteed. Just phone for an appointment. A date and time will be given. No details will be requested.

Support to the Foundation for Victims of Usury
The unit works hand-in-hand with the Foundation for the Victims of Usury in order to provide a holistic approach and support through counselling and social work to the persons seeking help from the Foundation.

The Foundation has been recently set up in October 2000. The aim of the Foundation is to offer help and advice to the victims of usury.

Advice and Support Service

  • A free service that provides a link for help and support
  • Offered in the Millennium Chapel Paceville
  • Under the supervision of the Counselling and Social work Unit

The aim of Link
To provide presence, listening, advice and support; no counselling and or social work interventions will be provided in the place. The service offered is a link and referral to different projects, programmes and services within Caritas for further help, advice and support. (e.g. New Hope Outreach, Xefaq, etc.).

Voluntary run service
Volunteers run the service. The volunteers include also members of the Caritas staff The Counselling and Social Work Unit give the volunteers training, support and supervision.

Days of service:
Friday evenings Time: 10.00p.m. - 12.00 midnight the service started operating from 8th December 2000
